This page is dedicated to working out what charity we need to support for lca2011 and how we should go about doing it. -- Matt
The Charity We Should Choose
A really good and cute charity would be the Guide Dogs Association. We might be even able to get them to bring in a puppy and have a guest speaker. Even better if they could give a talk during the conference. -- Matt
Médecins Sans Frontières A politically and religious neutral organisation that provides emergency medical aid to those who need it most. -- ClintonRoy
Australian Koala Foundation. The Koalas in South-East Queensland are some of the most vulnerable populations in Australia due to urban encroachment. The foundation is based in Brisbane and most likely we can get someone to come and give a spiel. -- MarkEllem
How We Should Get The Money
I would like us to just ask for money maybe have a raffle. NO AUCTION. It sucks. Have a bucket going around the Audience during the Penguin Dinner and at the reception table. -- Matt
- MSF would not be doing a donation drive, instead they'd be after pledges from people for ongoing monthly support. This would totally remove any money handling on the night.
- AUCTIONS ROCK!
Choosing
All of the charities are worthwhile and fit with the conference, but the time has come to make a decision. Please add your name below the charity you prefer, the original person who suggested the charity will be responsible for liaising with the charity, organising the speaker for the conference dinner and the donation drive. Voting will close Monday night next week, the 19th of April.
