We have a number of mailing lists, each with there own purpose so that members can choose
how much mail they get and on what topics.
Posters should attempt to keep lengthy discussions off the
general list. After a while, discussions tend to go off topic,
at which time it is worth considering moving them to the chat
list.
Off topic for all lists is anything commercial (except as
mentioned for the announce & blipvert lists). In addition,
due to the large number of System Administrators working for
various ISPs in HUMBUG, discussion of the relative merits of
different ISPs on the list is discouraged.
Before posting to the lists, make sure you've read
AJ's Netiquette Guide to avoid being flamed.

Yes |
Meeting announcements and all other important
information is sent out on this list. It is assumed that
all members are on this list.
The following is not an exhaustive list of on-topic
subjects, anything worthy of being on the announce list
will be approved by the list admin, but here are some that
would be acceptable:
- Meeting announcements.
- Official social event announcements.
- Lost/found property announcements following HUMBUG meetings.
- Job Advertisements that are directly related to Unix and/or
the Internet (Web development, C programming, perl scripting, etc).
- Posts concerning events that are of importance to HUMBUG
members as a whole (New stable version releases of Linux or
FreeBSD for example).

Restricted to Exec, SIG chairs and certain others. Contact
the Secretary if there is
something that needs to be posted.

| blipvert |
No |
This list is purely for advertisements which the denizens
of Humbug might be interested in. This includes, but not limited
to, Jobs which don't fit under the announce banner. The
name is taken from the Max-Headroom-esque 'blipverts',
which are simply 'blips' (ie, short) of advertisements.
Your posts should be similiar.

This list is primarily for Unix questions and answers,
but as the name suggests it covers a wide variety of topics.
'Chat' is off topic here, and should be sent to the chat list.
On topic subjects:
- Unix configuration problems.
- Answers to problems posted.
- Discussion about problems posted, and the merits of posted answers.
- General discussion about HUMBUG itself
(organisational matters such as incorporation vs Student
Union affiliation are an example here).
While programing problems are not off-topic per se, we encourage
you to have such discussions on the DSIG mailing-list.

This is the 'social' list, and has the highest volume traffic
of the three.
Although the chat list is relaxed, posters should take some care
in posting. Topics that are clearly not of interest to Unix users
in general should be taken to private email.
On topic subjects:
- Unix humour
- other humour
- chat

CSIG (Cluster Special Interest Group) is interested in clustering
Unix computers, setting up clusters, programming clusters, and using clusters. Also on topic is any
administrivia needed for the running of CSIG. SMP is just barely on topic.
