About Member Services Project Groups Meetings |
Meetings are held fortnightly at the University of Queensland. Members come for the network access, for technical help, for talks and a little bit of a night out.
ParkingAlthough parking is largely unrestricted at UQ on Saturdays, there are nevertheless rules that must be followed. Penalties apply for infringements. In particular, note that zones marked with yellow lines on the road are off-limits, as are the handicapped parking spaces if you don't have a handicapped parking permit. A brief stop in a reasonable location to drop off or pick up something or someone will be tolerated, but please be sure to park in a legitimate space immediately afterwards. DrinksWe used to have an esky of cold drinks for sale at meetings. Due to circumstances beyond our control this service was discontinued. Please contact the Vice President if you would like to see this come back, and particularly if you would be prepared to manage it.
FoodThere are junk food dispensers (chips, chocolate bars and soft drinks) located around the university. For real food on campus, the Pizza Caffe in the Union Complex has gourmet pizzas, soups and lasagna. Be sure to order early though, otherwise you could be in for a long wait. Off campus there is a wide range of food at the St Lucia Village (commonly referred to as "the ville"). There are cafes, restaurants (Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Italian, amongst others) as well as sandwich bars, and fish'n'chips. Network AccessNetwork access is given to HUMBUG members. Each member needs to bring their own machine loaded (or prepared to be loaded) with a Unix-type operating system, a network card and their own UTP cable. Power and Internet Access is provided by the University of Queensland. Although Internet Access is via the University of Queensland's proxy servers, SSH access is possible using ssh-https-tunnel. There are some limitations, so please read the comments at the top of the script. The University of Queensland has granted permission for members to use this script; however, please do not abuse it. |
